I am a British software developer who works mainly with PHP, Javascript & Flash. In December 2007 I started the hwdMediaShare project, which is a Joomla web application that allows webmasters to share media online.
I was born and educated in England, and chose to study theoretical physics at university, with a heavy brew of computational physics.
After a short time doing research into plasma physics it became apparent that I was not suited for academia. I started offering web design and development services to clients in the UK. Shortly after I stumbled into Joomla. At the time, I didn't realise that it had just forked from Mambo.
At this early stage in Joomla's life, there was no solution for video sharing with Ffmpeg support. I quickly put something together for one of my clients who needed this type of functionality. I freely offered this solution to the Joomla community, who supported and encouraged me to invest further time. I could not have anticipated the level of interest in the project, which has ultimately kept me employed for 4 years.
I have given a lot to the project, but have also been given so much in return.
